I am a civil service spider

caught up in tangled webs and revisions

Snagged by red tape and a plethora

of policies, procedures and permissions.

I am a bureaucratic beetle

my enthusiasm squashed and blinded

bugged by protectionists from on high

and by Mortein-mad ministerial minders.

I am a governmental gadfly

Who’s damn well trying to do his best

Using white ant wisdom when he can

to subvert the system’s managerial mess.

But it's a beneficial business

Life at the desk, not as sad as it seems.

I fly through weeks with full-paid flexitime

My sleep abuzz with superannuated dreams.
